About Us
| Clinical science is a broad discipline that requires teams of investigators schooled in areas such as the molecular basis of human disease, the use of animal models, the technologies and methodologies required to conduct studies in humans, and medical informatics. Importantly, clinician-scientists require collaborations with clinicians, who bring an in-depth understanding of human disease, and also bring in the patients who can participate as subjects in clinical research studies. Clinical sciences programs have recently come to the forefront to - Foster the linkage between basic biomedical research programs and the clinical enterprise,
- Gain insight into the pathophysiology and genetics of human diseases, and
- Capitalize on this knowledge to develop new therapeutic approaches and diagnostic strategies.
The Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences (SICS) is the Agency for Science, Technology and Research’s (A*STAR’s) key initiative to develop world-class clinical sciences programs. To realize the full potential of the investments which Singapore has made in the biomedical sciences, it is critical that strong and internationally competitive clinical science programs are developed. Singapore has the advantage of being more compact and nimble, as well as being home to the three ethnic populations which represent a substantial portion of Asia’s population. Any discovery and novel technology that is developed for Singapore’s population will also be highly relevant to the rest of Asia’s needs. |
